About

The first roll of film I ever exposed was made in Washington, D.C., the summer before my first year of high school. I was geeky and uncertain of myself and unaware that my horrible bangs were killing my game.

On this trip I carried a Kodak Advantix Camera; a super-progressive little model with three aspect-ratio options, and a roll of 25 exposures of 25 mm (yes, 25, not 35 mm) film, which ushered me into a lifetime of image-making.

My first Photography course took place at CU Denver, where I decided to pursue this life through a camera lens instead of a microscope lens. I graduated with a BFA in Photography, and immediately took to shooting weddings with a 35mm Minolta. In 2013, I graduated with an MA in Photographic Preservation and Collections Management from Ryerson University in Toronto. I have had the priviledge to study and work in such institutions as the George Eastman House, the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, the History Colorado Center, the Denver Art Museum, and most recently to independently research at the Condé Nast Archive. 2015 marks 11 years of continued wedding, portrait, family, and commercial photography, and 4 years studying photography in museums and archives.

By far, the best part of my job is the relationships I make. Some of my best and closest friends are people I have met through wedding photography, and had the privileged to both befriend and photograph continually in their lives. Every time I leave a wedding, I find myself completely exhausted yet still saying to myself how much I love what I do. I spend time with people who are celebrating with friends and family, look beautiful, smile all day long, and who have trusted me to capture one of the most important days of their lives; a privilege I do not take lightly and one that I approach with great responsibility. I strive for a beautiful and honest image, the best representation of a moment or emotion, and pride myself on making, not just taking photographs. I was once told that art is just a hobby, and that business is not personal, but I have found that my work and creativity is core to who I am, and I approach it as an natural extension of myself. I am giving you photographs, but also a piece of myself.

On the flip-side, here are a few things to know about me:

I really love to read..I enjoy baseball history, and at the ballpark, I usually keep score over my Coors Light. I own a pink and purple swirly bowling ball, which is engraved..and a good story (ask me about the engrave job sometime). Most days I like to run, and I love to ride my bike. I have a border collie named Brandy, who is my most-prized possession. My dad and I keep a pretty decent garden, I make the best strawberry shortcake you’ll ever eat, and I wouldn’t trade my parents wedding album for anything in the world.
